Louis Buhl & Co. is pleased to present Anne Vieux’s first-ever print edition, titled /moxie_traces. Within her work, Vieux intentionally misuses tools like scanners and holographic paper to create paintings with a technological Moiré effect. Appearing at times both metallic and aqueous, her abstract paintings capture something not possible in an analog world, but give warmth and even soul to the randomized data. 

Using the refracted light patterns of an optical scanner as a jumping off point, Vieux mines her digital source imagery to organize and give life to the data and patterns with painterly finesse that ultimately seeks the tension between the physical and digital realms. Based on one of the artist’s large-scale paintings that was seminal in the development of her recent work, /moxie_traces is earthly and expressive, embellished with hand brushed and sprayed acrylic paint.
